Yangwang, the premium brand of BYD, announced on November 6 that the U9 Xtreme reached 503.17 km/h (312.66 mph) during a top-speed run on a public road in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. Brand material dates the run to November 1 and presents the car as the world's fastest production car.

The new figure improves on the 496.22 km/h the U9 Xtreme had previously recorded at the ATP proving ground in Germany. In August 2025, a U9 engineering test car had already reached 472.41 km/h at the same site, then a record for electric cars.

The U9 Xtreme uses 4 electric motors of 555 kW each, for a combined peak output of 2,220 kW, or more than 3,000 PS. Each motor can spin at up to 30,000 rpm. The car runs on a 1,200 V platform with a Blade Battery capable of 30C discharge, DiSus-X active body control, carbon-ceramic brakes and semi-slick tyres rated for speeds above 500 km/h.

Production is limited to 30 units worldwide, each priced above RMB 20 million (about $2.99 million). The standard Yangwang U9 starts at RMB 1.8 million (about $269,000) in China.
