Xiaomi EV starts hiring in Australia ahead of 2028 right-hand-drive expansion

Xiaomi has posted automotive jobs in Sydney as it prepares right-hand-drive markets for the first half of 2028, after a European debut planned for late 2027.

Xiaomi has begun recruiting for its car business in Australia, with 2 roles advertised in Sydney: a senior legal counsel covering vehicle sales, after-sales and regulation, and a product manager for instalment finance across Asia-Pacific.

The hiring fits the timetable given by president Lu Weibing at Xiaomi's April 2026 Investor Day: a first overseas launch in Europe in the second half of 2027, followed by right-hand-drive markets such as Australia, the UK, Japan and New Zealand in the first half of 2028.

In Europe, Xiaomi signed memorandums of understanding with 8 German dealer groups at IFA Berlin in September, including Emil Frey Germany and Hahn Automobile. These are not yet final dealer contracts.

Xiaomi has not said which models will be offered overseas or at what prices. The SU7 sedan and YU7 SUV are the likely candidates, and a second phase at its Beijing plant is designed to lift the site's annual capacity to 300,000 vehicles.
